Dog with Bow TieHere are some suggestions of local cafes and bars that are happy to accept dogs.  Please ensure that you do check ahead prior to arrival as these arrangements may change at any time.

Cross Lanes Organic Farm Shop - just off the A66 near Barnard Castle.  Serves organic food and stocks organic doggie treats

No15 Market Place, Barnard Castle - cosy cafe with delicious food.

The Old Well, Barnard Castle - A CAMRA pub with beer garden in the town centre

The Golden Lion, Barnard Castle -  A dog friendly town centre pub, also serving meals.

The Morritt Arms, Greta Bridge - Dogs are allowed in the bar and garden but not the restaurant

The Red Lion, Cotherstone - A real ale bar, note it does not serve food.

The Rose and Crown, Romaldkirk - Dogs allowed in the bar where food is served.

The Crown at Mickleton - Food served all day and dogs allowed.

The Strathmore Arms, Holwick - Off the beaten track, great for a stop on a walk, serves food

The Conduit Cafe, Middleton in Teesdale - excellent cafe with home-made food

Hamsterley Forest Cafe - Has a dog friendly porch and excellent walking opportunities in the forest

The Cross Key, Hamsterley - Family run pub with a dog friendly snug.


When walking your dog in the countryside please follow the countryside code and ensure that your animal is kept under close control or on the lead to prevent any issues with livestock.
