Site of Piercebridge Roman FortTeesdale was a key point on the Roman route across the Pennines south of Hadrian's Wall.  The A66 follows the original Roman Road.  This tour takes in the fort and river crossing at Piercebridge which served as a major supply router to the North for the Roman campaigns. Explore the ruins of the garrison and see the remains of the Roman bridge abutments by the river.

The tour takes you further north to along the A66 trans-Pennine route over the Stainmore pass.  This vast swathe of open moorland formed part of the military zone during Roman times and was dotted with signal posts along the way.  With the potential to extend the tour north to take in Hadrians wall this tour will appeal to history and archaeology enthusiasts alike.
