Steam FairBarnard Castle Meet, held at the end of May each year, and the Village fun days and weekends are great community celebrations that are open to all visitors to join.  The Barnard Castle Meet was started by a group of cyclists who came to meet at Barnard Castle from the Tyne area.  Large crowds gathered to watch the procession of cycling clubs make their way from the railway station through to the centre of the town.  The event still holds a procession and also hosts a wide range of events that span the late May bank holiday weekend.  With live music, markets and fairs there is something for everyone at Barnard Castle during the Meet weekend.

Each village in Teesdale hosts a summer fun day or fun weekend with lots of great family activities, fairs and good old fashioned fun.  Join in the fancy dress parades, village hall teas and games.

The start of autumn begins the show season.  Most villages host their own small shows but the two largest shows in Teesdale are The Eggleston Show and The Bowes Show. These are major events in the agricultural calendar and include showing of livestock, pets, produce, crafts, home baking, vegetables and much more.  The shows are a joy to visit and get a real insight into life in the countryside today.  An important event in the upper dale is The Langdon Beck Sheep Show, here the local farmers bring down their finest stock to compete against each other.
