Silver SwanBowes Museum and its surrounding parkland are a 'must see' for all visitors to Teesdale.  The grand French Chateau was the brainchild of John and Josephine Bowes, who commissioned the building to house their extensive art collection.

The museum's most iconic piece is an enchanting automaton of a silver swan. Every day the clockwork mechanism is wound up by museum staff and visitors are enthralled by the short display.  Alongside the collections and temporary exhibitions the museum has a number of trails and spotting guides for children.

Seasonal events, special exhibitions and workshops are hosted throughout the year with a range of family activities during school holidays.  Together with the natural outdoor play area and woodland trail, the museum makes a great family day out.

Bowes museum café is open all day and there is also a delightful gift shop.
