 The North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty have produced a guided walk of nearly 3 miles, starting in Bowlees, in Upper Teesdale, exploring the life and times of Richard Watson.  Richard Watson was born in Middleton in Teesdale Victorian times, he attended the Lead mining school from the age of six where is ability with words was spotted.  When Richard was 10 his father fell ill and Richard had to leave school and start his career in the lead mining industry.

The trail follows some of the Richard Watson's commute to work which took him from Holwick over the river Tees and to the mines at Little Eggleshope.  The guide provides a vivid description of the life of the lead miners and includes verses that were created by Richard Watson during his time as a Lead miner.

See the oldest Methodist Chapel in the world in continuous use along the way at Newbiggin and stop off at the welcoming Strathmore Arms in Holwick for some refreshment where Richard lived with his wife and five daughters.  The walk starts and finishes at The Bowlees Visitor Centre, where there is a café, gift shop and ample donate and display car parking.
