Interior view of Newbiggin ChapelJohn Wesley's preachers first visited Teesdale to preach in 1747, the delightful little chapel at Newbiggin was first opened in 1760 and served as the first Methodist church in Teesdale.

John Wesley, himself, visited the chapel to preach there on several occasions.  The life and activity of John Wesley has been recorded in a trail of the North East including sections through Teesdale, where you can follow in the footsteps of John Wesley and find out about his teachings and support for North Eastern communities.

Visits can be made to the interior of the chapel, which is close to both High Force and Low Force, by prior appointment.
